In all climes, a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) is a milestone that is well-respected. For Chief Dr. Alh. Aliyu Yusuf, the conferment of a PhD in Political Science with Specialization in Policy Analysis at the 29th and 30th combined convocation of University of Abuja was more than an academic achievement. It was the culmination of years of persistence, sacrifice and unwavering determination.

The combined convocation became a grand celebration of this remarkable feat. At a special reception in the school campus, friends, family members and well-wishers travelled far and near to be part of the occasion, underscoring the widespread admiration for Dr. Yusuf’s accomplishment. The atmosphere was one of joy and pride as attendees gathered to celebrate a man whose journey symbolizes hope and possibility.
The convocation itself was a week-long celebration of scholarship and excellence that commenced on Monday, April 13, 2026 and concluded on Saturday, April 18, 2026. The event drew dignitaries, scholars and proud families from across Nigeria, but for Dr. Yusuf, it was deeply personal with far-reaching communal significance as the people of Okene attended the event in mass to celebrate with him.

Speaking at a reception ceremony organised to celebrate the great feat, Dr. Yusuf described his academic journey as one marked by resilience, discipline, and unwavering commitment. He noted that rising from a less privileged background to attain a doctoral degree required years of sacrifice and focus on education.
“This achievement reflects serious dedication to academics despite the odds,” he said, encouraging young people, especially those from disadvantaged backgrounds, to remain steadfast in pursuing their educational goals.
His wife, Mrs. Mariam Aliyu who was present at the event, expressed pride in her husband’s accomplishment, describing the PhD as a testament to hard work and perseverance. She acknowledged that the journey was challenging, adding that the family had to make several sacrifices along the way.
“It was not an easy path, but his determination kept him going,” she said.
Earlier, the family head of Dr. Yusuf, Pharm. Mohammed Audu commended him for his persistence and commitment, describing the achievement as a proud moment not only for the family but for his entire community.
At a grand reception organised to celebrate the great feat, family members Dr. Yusuf, who hails from Okene in Kogi State and was honoured not only with the presence of family members, friends and colleagues but Award of Excellence for his service to humanity.
The multiple awards further highlight Dr. Yusuf’s contributions beyond academia, reinforcing his role as a figure of inspiration and development at the grassroots level.
