Amb. Malu Joins Benue Governorship Race, Vows to Address Gaps in Alia Administration

By Moses Agbessy,

AbujaAmbassador Timothy Terzungwe Malu, a prominent Benue politician, has declared his intention to contest the governorship election in Benue State in 2027 under the platform of the People’s Redemption Party (PRP).

Malu made his intention known in an exclusive interview with the Star TV crew/online in Abuja on Friday, August 21, 2026.According to him, his decision to join the governorship race is not aimed at overheating the political atmosphere in Benue State, but rather at providing voters with a credible political alternative ahead of the 2027 election.

He said that if the people of Benue decide to support a different candidate instead of Governor Hyacinth Iormem Alia for a second term, he would be ready to take up the responsibility and address what he described as gaps in the current administration.Malu acknowledged that Governor Alia has, in his view, done his best for the people of Benue State.

However, he said his administration, if elected in 2027, will eventually introduce additional development initiatives and explore new opportunities that could move the state to greater heights. The PRP governorship hopeful also explained the significance of his trademark red cap, which he said symbolises his political connection to the party’s ideological heritage.

According to him, the red cap pays tribute to the late Mallam Aminu Kano and Professor Daniel Saror of Benue State, whom he described as political figures who stood firmly for the common good and the interests of the ordinary people, or Talakawa.

Malu said the ideals represented by these political figures align with the ideology he professes and intends to uphold. He expressed confidence that, if given the opportunity to govern Benue State, he would remain committed to the welfare of the people and will not disappoint them. The declaration adds another notable name to the emerging political contest ahead of the 2027 Benue State governorship election.
