The members of Igbo Community in Karu Local Government Area of Nasarawa State under the auspices of ‘Ezeigbo Ndigbo’ (Igbo Community General Assembly) have resolved to support the governorship ambition of the former Inspector General of Police, Alhaji Mohammed Abubakar Adamu (IGP, rtd.) in the 2027 general election. Mr. Adamu is vying to become the governor of Nasarawa State alongside 27 candidates in the state.
The Traditional group took its position during one of their special meetings held on Saturday, 30th August at the palace of their traditional leader, His Royal Majesty, Prof. Amb. Igwe Ochendo O. A. Chukwudi, JP in Ado Karu Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.
According to the members, their unanimous decision was due to Mr. Adamu’s excellent track records, particularly in the areas of entrenching security across the country during his leadership as the Inspector General of Police of Nigeria. They maintain optimism that the former police boss will bring his knowledge, experience and enthusiasm with which he achieved enormous feats from the police force to bear on the state. “The Igbos are business people and one of our greatest threat to business is insecurity. We want somebody who is a very good manager and a security expert to pilot the affairs of Nasarawa State”, Chief Onu Chukwu, the President General of Igbo Community General Assembly, Ado, Karu Local Government said.
The members also observed that Mr. Adamu has a drive for infrastructure and human capital development and as businessmen and women they believe he can best represent their interest. This, according to them, is in addition to the fact that he is accessible and will not turn his back against them if elected into power.
Prayers were said for the success of Alhaji Adamu’s candidacy while praying for God’s guidance, protection and more wisdom to enable him effectively steer the task.
Addressing journalists after the meeting, the Chief of Igbo Community General Assembly, Karu LGA, His Royal Majesty, Prof. Amb Igwe Ochendo O. A. Chukwudi, JP observed that the purpose for their gathering was to discuss a way forward to install through the grassroots, delegates and party membership their illustrious son, His Excellency, Alhaji Abubakar Adamu, IGP retired as the next governor of Nasarawa State because of the great work he has done in Nigeria.
He opined that Alhaji Adamu had on different occasions served as the commissioner of police in different states before he became the Inspector Generator of police and he performed exceptionally well in his capacity. Therefore, they were optimistic that he will turn around the fortunes of the state.
He noted that they are extremely happy for his candidacy because for them it is prayer being answered. He said with Adamu in the political race, it dawn on them that the time of political confusion is over. “Nasarawa State deserves a man like this. He is a man with integrity, an honest, educated and detribalized man. During his time [as Inspector General of Police], there was no insecurity in Nigeria. I can beat my chest to tell you this. He is tested, proven and trusted.
“When you come close to him, you will see that we may not get another man like him. In fact, out of the 28 aspirants, he is the best. We pray to God that he should scale through from your efforts and I.
“Adamu is only coming to serve. He is not coming to steal. God has blessed him already. He is a man with clean heart”, HRH Ochendo opined.
The Igbo chief further cautioned delegates to uphold integrity in the primaries and ensure that they choose the right candidate that will represent the interest of the masses of the state.
“My advice to the delegates is that they should not compromise because this is when money bags are out. “If you put a wrong person in that position, we will keep going backward. My prayer and advice to the delegates is to maintain their consciousness that Mohammed Abubakar Adamu is the answer”, he reiterated.
With the enthusiasm expressed by members of the association and its leadership, it is expected that a favourable electoral environment will be created by the Nigerian government for their candidate to explore his chances at the polls.
