By Zack Tsebee

House committee on NG Cares set to investigate the agency to ascertain the level of implementation and why some state are credicted higher, while some state are getting lower than expected.

The Motion which was ably moved by the Deputy Chairman of the committee, Rt. Hon. Dennis Nnamdi Agbo (fca) on the need to carry out a full investigation of NG-Cares by the persistent calls by wide section of Nigerians for the government to administer as a matter of urgency, on the palliatives to cushion the effects on the vulnerable groups of economic reforms, including the removal of fuel subsidy and unification of exchange rates.

The committee is cognizant that, the Nigerian Community Action for residents and economic stimulus NG-Cares was established for the purpose of implementing of social safety nets and palliatives to vulnerable Nigerians to elevate adverse effects of government policies, including economic reports. The committee is particularly aware that, the standing committee is established, among other committee to oversight the activities of NG-Cares.

The committee is also aware that, the available records and information indicate that the federal government has provided huge resources, partly from World Bank credit to finance a comprehensive package of palliatives targeted at the vulnerable groups.

The house is also aware that these funds, amounting to up to 696 million US dollars, or 1.06 trillion Naira, have been moved to the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory for onward administration on the target, vulnerable groups as safety nets through designated delivery platforms.

The House committee is disturbed that, despite the robust arrangement and funding by the federal government for Palliatives, nothing can be seen on ground to alleviate the condition of these vulnerable Nigerians, and the cry of neglect and for attention of government for safety nets has persisted across the states.

The House committee is worried that the situation has become a failure of cause and effect that needs to be urgently unraveled so as to provide the needed succour to Nigerians in need, the House therefore resolves to carry out a full investigation of the activities of NG-Cares to determine why the huge resources provided by government through the states and the Federal Capital Territory Have not resulted in adequate relief to Nigerian citizens from the hardships occasioned by economic reforms.

Hon. Kusada said motion is timely and important, and with the issues on ground the committee has full responsibility of carrying out a full investigation of the activities of NG-Cares, concerning the problem across the country of about 1.06 trillion Naira has been so far disbursed to state and including The Federal Council in order to provide support score to the rural communities.

The Chairman of the Committee also said that, they cannot say a word without going deep investigation on how far the monies has been expended, and other relief they provide to rural communities.
