Justice Abdullahi Hassan Shamshama of the Nasarawa State High Court, Doma, yesterday failed to appear before Justice M. O. Olajunwon of the Federal High Court, Lafia division, in a case of human rights violation filled against him by Alhaji Isa Hassan Nararaba.

The matter which was mentioned in court on Tuesday 11th March 2025,, noticed Justice Shamshama and four others absent.

The presiding judge Justice Olajunwon asked, if the originating processes had been served to the absent parties.
Counsel to the complainant, Abubakar Dogara (SAN) confirmed that the originating processes had been served to all parties involved.

The case was therefore adjourned to April 29, 2025, for hearing.
Dogara, , stated that all correspondence had been served, and they were awaiting for response, though there might be a counter affidavit prepared, he said.

According to him, his client Isa Nararaba, had an ongoing case before Justice Shamshama at Doma, and in the proceedings complications arose by Shamshama who was acting against court laws, leading to concerns if fair hearing will be granted..


Nararaba’s lawyer on noticing the act decided to absent himself from court.
Based on that, Nararaba then sought to engage another lawyer that will continue with the matter, but his request was denied by Shamshama, which Dogara said he violated Section 36 of the Constitution that started clearly, all individuals has the right to choose his or her lawyer that will defend him in a court of law.

The situation led to disagreement, resulting in Nararaba’s arrest at Doma High Court.
He was taken to the police station at Doma, and detained overnight for allegedly refusing to surrender his phone for investigation by the police.


Nararaba maintained that his phone was not under investigation by the court neither was it part of the case and was not under any court order.


Dogara said the attitude constituted a violation of his client privacy, adding that all the incidents amounted to a breach of Nararaba’s fundamental human rights that most be pursued in a competent court , which is before justice Olajunwon of the federal High Court lafia.
